A Brisbane<\/a> woman has been abandoned on the side of a freeway late at night by an Uber<\/a> driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The woman said the driver pulled over on the Western Freeway at Toowong and ordered her out of the vehicle about 11.30pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe pulled over without any warning and said, \u2018This trip is longer than 10 minutes. I\u2019m not doing it,\u2019\u201d she told 7NEWS.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe became quite aggressive when I questioned why he was stopping.\u201d<\/p>\n

Left alone beside speeding traffic, she walked along the freeway to an overpass, where she waited about 40 minutes for another Uber.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knew how far the journey was going to be when he accepted the job so I was shocked he could just do that,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Uber apologised to the woman, refunded her fare and confirmed it is investigating the incident.<\/p>\n

The woman said the experience had shattered her confidence in rideshare services.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t feel like it\u2019s a safe option anymore,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shine Lawyers senior associate Amelia Feachnie said rideshare drivers owe passengers a duty of care.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find that morally abhorrent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a right to end up at their destination because that\u2019s what they\u2019ve paid for.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said passengers could potentially have grounds to seek compensation if they were injured after being abandoned.<\/p>\n

Australian Taxi Industry Association chief executive Blair Davies described the incident as \u201cunacceptable\u201d and renewed calls for rideshare vehicles to meet the same safety requirements as taxis.<\/p>\n
