{"id":63003,"date":"2026-08-01T20:21:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T20:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/63003\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T20:21:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T20:21:20","slug":"oliphant-park-new-fenced-dog-park-in-kenwick-gives-owners-another-spot-to-unleash-their-furry-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/63003\/","title":{"rendered":"Oliphant Park: New fenced dog park in Kenwick gives owners another spot to unleash their furry friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Dogs have a new place to roam free in Gosnells after a new off-leash park opened this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The new enclosed dog exercise area opened in Kenwick\u2019s popular Oliphant Park, allowing dog owners to let their furry friends loose to play and socialise in a safe environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The new facility features large and small grassed enclosures surrounded by vegetation. The enclosures have their own double-gated entries, as requested by the Gosnells community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Dog waste bins, seating areas and an accessible water fountain with a dog bowl and bottle refill outlet are also available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Deputy mayor Serena Williamson said the city had responded to community feedback calling for more enclosed off-leash dog parks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis new dedicated space gives dogs an opportunity to interact with other dogs and people, while enjoying the freedom to run, play and burn off energy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cOliphant Dog Park provides a safe, welcoming space for local residents to enjoy the outdoors with their dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/97e7c8ff66575c4ed93389a400d739e15716e4f6.jpg\" alt=\"Mayor Terresa Lynes (right) and Councillors Balli Singh, Dillon Mason, Peter Abetz, Diane Lloyd, Leah Szcyglak and Saiful Islam at the new Oliphant Park enclosed dog park at Kenwick.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconMayor Terresa Lynes (right) and Councillors Balli Singh, Dillon Mason, Peter Abetz, Diane Lloyd, Leah Szcyglak and Saiful Islam at the new Oliphant Park enclosed dog park at Kenwick. It received 27 online survey responses, of which 85 per cent supported the park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Responders ranked double-gated entrances and shelter as the most important part of dog parks, followed by natural elements for dogs to explore and separation between dog sizes and temperaments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The city\u2019s landscape architecture team created a concept design based on the feedback, and construction finally began in February this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The location was selected following a petition from the Kenwick community requesting an enclosed dog park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Local resident Tracey O\u2019Neil put the 124-signature petition forward to council in 2024, requesting a \u201csafe, spacious area\u201d for locals to \u201cexercise and socialise their dogs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Enclosed dog parks can also be found across Gosnells at Harmony Fields in Maddington and Bracadale Park in Canning Vale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The city is investigating opportunities to develop more parks in other locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dogs have a new place to roam free in Gosnells after a new off-leash park opened this month.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":63004,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[6589,227,1774,152,335,228,149,4316,464],"class_list":["post-63003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-perth","tag-canning","tag-lifestyle","tag-local-government","tag-news","tag-perth","tag-pets","tag-politics","tag-south","tag-wa-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/63003","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=63003"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/63003\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/63004"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=63003"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=63003"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=63003"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
