Ryan Wood failed to take the start of Sunday\u2019s Perth Super440 finale, forced to pull his Walkinshaw TWG Supra to the garage on the formation lap.<\/p>\n
The team initially worked to get the car out to score points before admitting defeat as the Lap 20 cut-off lapsed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels like it\u2019s some kind of backfire through the manifold,\u201d Walkinshaw TWG CEO Bruce Stewart told the broadcast.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll diagnose it with more information when we get it back.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the latest in a series of failures for the Toyota 2UR-GSE V8 that Walkinshaw has developed in conjunction with British firm Swindon Powertrains for the Supercars project.<\/p>\n
Work continues on an upgrade for the engine to solve a known valvetrain weakness.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing, challenging,\u201d mused Stewart.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re learning but it doesn\u2019t make it easy. We\u2019re a proud team, we\u2019ve got a great engine team, but it\u2019s on us.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got to do the learning, it\u2019s our engine and in that respect\u2026 Toyota has a great saying; we race, we learn, you win.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re in an uncomfortable learning period but we\u2019ve got the right people and I know we\u2019ll find the right solution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got a really good plan mapped out, but it doesn\u2019t make it hurt [less].<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very disappointing for us, our fans, our supporters and the faithful team at Toyota.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut again, it\u2019s on us.\u201d<\/p>\n
