“The old girl’s now retired as far as I’m concerned and she’s got about 300 metres to go to get to the million mark,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I’m going to allow the purchaser to have the privilege of driving that 300 metres.”<\/p>\n
Mr Driscoll said he did not know what would happen to the odometer once it ticked over.<\/p>\n
“I’m not sure that Toyota even know because I don’t think there’s been another 200 series that has done it.<\/p>\n
“So whether it goes back to all zeros \u2026 Toyota have got the feeling that it might just stay on all the nines, but we won’t know until someone gets in it and goes for a drive.”<\/p>\n
The Horsham Toyota dealership said the vehicle had been serviced almost 100 times and it was the most travelled car it had seen.<\/p>\n
The dealership said it was the first vehicle it had seen that had hit the 1 million-kilometre mark, particularly with the original engine.<\/p>\n
The manufacturer was unable to confirm the highest mileage Toyota vehicle in Australia, but said it was aware of several customers whose Toyota vehicles had passed the 1 million-kilometre mark.<\/p>\n

Cruiser on ‘rare road’<\/p>\n
Automotive journalist Toby Hagon said it was “extremely rare” to find a car that had driven 1 million kilometres, let alone for that car to be put up for auction.<\/p>\n
“Plenty of cars, once they’re getting to 200,000 to 300,000km, that can be seen as a high-mileage car,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, a lot can go wrong with a car in that time and if you think about how much driving that is, it’s a heck of a lot of time on the road.<\/p>\n
“The only [cars] I’ve really ever seen that are over a million kilometres [on the main market websites] are where people have incorrectly put the wrong odometer in there.<\/p>\n
“It’s not something that comes up too often. I would think you’d see a car like this every few years at best.”<\/p>\n
He said it was “really tricky” to put a value on the car, but said LandCruisers did hold their value extremely well.<\/p>\n
“How old the car is and how far it’s driven directly impacts what it’s worth,” Mr Driscoll said.<\/p>\n
“The car itself ordinarily might be worth $30,000 to 35,000, somewhere around that, but that’s for a car with maybe less than half those kilometres on it.<\/p>\n
“I’m not sure there’d be a whole lot of people lining up for that because obviously the usefulness of the car and how much more you’re going to get out of it will be diminished compared with a similar car with [fewer] kilometres on it.<\/p>\n
“So, maybe it might get $20,000 to $30,000 if someone decides there is a bit of fun factor to it.”<\/p>\n
Mr Hagon said it was more likely for a 4WD or a ute to clock over 1 million kilometres, as they did long trips on country roads.<\/p>\n
“Sitting on a country road is a lot more gentle on a car, on an engine, than zipping around town at lower speeds,” he said.<\/p>\n
