will lead the party into the November state election<\/a>.<\/p>\nMs Hanson also unveiled seven candidates for the upper house.<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering announced a last-minute change to his candidacy, switching this morning from the upper house candidate for Eastern Victoria to the lower house candidate for Pakenham.<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering said the move reflects One Nation\u2019s intention to \u201cgovern in its own right\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve certainly got our work cut out for us \u2014 now we\u2019ve got four months to earn the trust of Victorians, and we intend to do just that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, Senator Hanson denied she had left it too late to announce candidates, adding that there would be further announcements about lower house candidates shortly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the next week or two, we will start announcing our lower house candidates,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
But neither leader was able to announce any policies, adding that the party\u2019s general priorities would be to tackle crime and corruption.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of our key policies will be announced after the Farmer Fight Back event on the 28th of this month,\u201d Mr Pickering said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo stay tuned for those.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senator Hanson said Ms Harkin was also a valuable candidate because of her background as a conservative education policy researcher.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s another big issue here that One Nation is going to attack \u2014 education,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe wokeness that\u2019s happened, the curriculum that\u2019s in our educational system. Kids are going backwards in the educational system. So that all needs to be addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering added that the party would also be supporting a royal commission into Big Build corruption, which Senator Hanson said would ensure \u201ctruth comes out\u201d.<\/p>\n
But Mr Pickering conceded he had not looked at what terms of reference he believed the inquiry should have.<\/p>\n
Asked if he was still open to forming a coalition with the Liberals, Mr Pickering said he\u2019d \u201cmanage that situation if it eventuates\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe intend to do what\u2019s absolutely necessary, and getting rid of this dangerous Labor government is our primary objective,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
One Nation\u2019s South-Eastern Metropolitan candidate Colleen Harkin was asked if she was a \u201ctrophy\u201d candidate given her extensive history as a member and candidate for the Liberal Party.<\/p>\n
She said her values had not changed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t leave the Liberal Party, the Liberal Party left me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very comfortable and confident.
