{"id":64257,"date":"2026-08-03T17:18:04","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T17:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/64257\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T17:18:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T17:18:04","slug":"ralph-carr-unmasked-as-the-high-profile-melbourne-man-guilty-of-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/64257\/","title":{"rendered":"Ralph Carr unmasked as the high-profile Melbourne man guilty of rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ralph Carr once rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in Aussie sport and showbiz. <\/p>\n<p>But now, the manager to the stars is rubbing shoulders with criminals as he sits in jail awaiting sentence for rape.<\/p>\n<p>The 66-year-old has finally been unmasked as the high-profile Melbourne man <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/truecrimeaustralia\/police-courts-victoria\/highprofile-melbourne-man-found-guilty-of-rapes-sexual-assaults-on-young-woman\/news-story\/c614ae41dd4bfdfff816886f86cde30d\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"c614ae41dd4bfdfff816886f86cde30d\" data-tgev-label=\"truecrimeaustralia\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a young woman<\/a> at his multimillion-dollar home. <\/p>\n<p>The prominent entertainment and sports talent manager \u2013 best known as once serving as AFL legend Dustin Martin\u2019s agent and for his \u00admarriage to singer Tina Arena \u2013 was last Tuesday <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/truecrimeaustralia\/police-courts-victoria\/highprofile-melbourne-man-found-guilty-of-rapes-sexual-assaults-on-young-woman\/news-story\/c614ae41dd4bfdfff816886f86cde30d\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"c614ae41dd4bfdfff816886f86cde30d\" data-tgev-label=\"truecrimeaustralia\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">convicted of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault<\/a> following a County Court trial. <\/p>\n<p>He now faces a maximum sentence of 25 years for rape.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Martin said he immediately cut ties with his former manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was shocked to learn of the outcome of the court proceedings,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no knowledge whatsoever of the conduct that led to these convictions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy thoughts are with those affected. Effective immediately, I have ended my professional relationship with my former manager. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs this is a legal matter, I will not be making any further comment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carr took advantage of the young woman, forcing himself on her at his Rosslyn St mansion in West Melbourne while she was under the influence of \u00adalcohol and cocaine. <\/p>\n<p>She said he initially kissed her and touched her breasts and buttocks. When she pushed him away, he replied: \u201cYou are so sexy, I can\u2019t stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, while she cried into a pillow in the early hours of that March 2023 morning, he raped her twice.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, the Herald Sun has been <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/news\/opinion\/we-are-known-in-other-states-as-the-suppression-order-capital\/news-story\/3700882cba7a7bc61fed00ac800de126\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"3700882cba7a7bc61fed00ac800de126\" data-tgev-label=\"news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prohibited from identifying Carr,<\/a> who was listed in court by his full name Ralph Carnovale-Carr. <\/p>\n<p>The former husband of Aussie songstress Tina Arena has had his identity protected by the courts since he was charged in August 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Carr, 66, has been able to proceed with his case under a cloak of anonymity for three years after being granted a \u00adsuppression order to protect his mental health and safety. <\/p>\n<p>The order was set to lift upon the verdicts, with Carr earlier telling his psychiatrist that if he was found guilty he should be named on the front page. <\/p>\n<p>But when the verdicts were delivered, his barrister Dermot Dann, KC, applied to extend the gag order. <\/p>\n<p>Tom Silvagni also won a <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/truecrimeaustralia\/police-courts-victoria\/highprofile-man-convicted-of-rape-revealed-as-tom-silvagni-after-gag-order-lifts\/news-story\/034bbc59368875bef95456121d3755c3\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"034bbc59368875bef95456121d3755c3\" data-tgev-label=\"truecrimeaustralia\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shield of anonymity while \u00adfacing trial for rape.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019m guilty, put it on the front page,\u201d the County Court earlier heard Carr told his psychiatrist Jacqueline Rakov.<\/p>\n<p id=\"U10179842749927B\">Dr Rakov also gave expert court evidence in support of <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/truecrimeaustralia\/police-courts-victoria\/highprofile-man-convicted-of-rape-revealed-as-tom-silvagni-after-gag-order-lifts\/news-story\/034bbc59368875bef95456121d3755c3\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"034bbc59368875bef95456121d3755c3\" data-tgev-label=\"truecrimeaustralia\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Silvagni<\/a> winning a suppression order. <\/p>\n<p id=\"U1017085921655pH\">But as with Silvagni, the Herald Sun, and other media outlets, represented by Justin Quill, partner at law firm Thomsons, planned to fight to have the order lifted on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>When the court convened, Carr\u2019s legal team announced he would no longer be pursuing the application.<\/p>\n<p>An unrecognisable Carr, who was without his trademark wig, sat in the County Court dock on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>In a grey prison-issued tracksuit and glasses, Carr looked pale as he leaned forward in his seat. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Dann said Carr would push forward with an application to stay \u2013 or delay \u2013 his sentence and appeal his conviction as he \u201cmaintains his innocence \u2026 on the basis of a substantial miscarriage of justice\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>That was because \u201cno jury acting reasonably or rationally\u201d could have arrived at the guilty verdict.<\/p>\n<p id=\"U101798427499otD\">Carr was \u201crelying on his mental health as part of that application,\u201d Mr Dann said. <\/p>\n<p id=\"U101708592165FtD\">His case was adjourned for a mention on Friday where a future plea date would be discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Carr, who grew up in North Fitzroy and attended the then-called Alfred Crescent State School, now Fitzroy North Primary, has overseen the careers of musicians, TV personalities and athletes through his Richmond-based company, Ralph Carr Management. <\/p>\n<p>He managed his first wife, Arena, who later opened up in an <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/entertainment\/music\/tina-arenas-family-told-her-to-be-a-runaway-bride-on-wedding-day\/news-story\/778703313f8df77974977bfabee3cf84\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"778703313f8df77974977bfabee3cf84\" data-tgev-label=\"entertainment\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">autobiography about their four-year marriage,<\/a> her family\u2019s reservations about him and how she felt \u201cdisconnected\u201d from him on their wedding day in 1995. <\/p>\n<p>The celebrity agent also shaped the careers of singers Vanessa Amorosi, Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano, who once said Carr would \u201ctake a bullet\u201d for any of his clients. <\/p>\n<p>Other AFL players he managed include Shai Bolton and Daniel Rioli while they were with the Tigers. In 2013, then-premier Ted Baillieu made the award-winning businessman an Australia Day ambassador for his contribution to the Australian entertainment industry. <\/p>\n<p>His notoriety saw his lawyers request a bigger than usual jury pool for the empanelment process for his trial to cater for more \u00adpotential excuses than usual from anyone who might have known him. <\/p>\n<p>But despite his success story in <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldsun.com.au\/news\/manager-to-the-stars-ralph-carr-may-hold-key-to-dusty-decision\/news-story\/880a0395ead020bc995d4f9b058feb6a\" title=\"www.heraldsun.com.au\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"880a0395ead020bc995d4f9b058feb6a\" data-tgev-label=\"news\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">managing the who\u2019s who of the nation for the past 30 years<\/a> \u2013 and his social media being flooded with images of him with everyone from the late cricket legend Shane Warne to country singer Keith Urban and Aussie actors Nicky Whelan and Kate Neilson \u2013 Carr cut a lonely figure in his three-week trial.<\/p>\n<p>Each day he attended the court on the corner of Lonsdale and William streets wearing a suit and tie, while carrying his laptop bag, on his own or with his legal team. <\/p>\n<p>The only sign of any support for him came towards the end of the trial when his lawyers called two character references to convince the jury he was a good man who could not have committed such heinous crimes. <\/p>\n<p>The first of those was barrister Marcus Clarke, KC, who met Carr when they both served on the Carlton Football Club board in the early-2000s. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Clarke\u2019s wife, and Carr\u2019s second wife Emma Carr, a former model and swimmer who he had two children with before they split in 2018, also became close. <\/p>\n<p id=\"U101798427499HpE\">Asked if he had ever seen Carr \u201cact inappropriately towards women, Mr Clarke replied: \u201cNot at all.\u201d He described his mate as \u201crespectful of everyone\u201d, as well as \u201cvery honest and very decent\u201d. \u201cHe\u2019s just an honourable character,\u201d Mr Clarke said.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian Marchesani spent more than 22 years working closely with Carr on his executive team. In that time, 1998 to 2020, he never observed him acting inappropriately to his \u00adfemale staff or any woman, Mr Marchesani said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe doesn\u2019t have, really, any outside interests, and is very dedicated to the artists because obviously, a manager makes a commission off an artist. So it\u2019s in his best interest to get the best result for the artist.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Carr has told his legal team he wants to appeal his convictions.
