\n\t\t\t\tThe Perth Mint has entered the Guinness World Records after creating a gold bar weighing more than 500 kilograms.
\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n
The Perth Mint created the 521.2 kilogram bar using Australian gold, refined to a 99.999 per cent purity, and has claimed the title of the world\u2019s largest gold bar.<\/p>\n
The achievement has shattered the previous world record of 300 kilograms, set by a mint in Dubai two years ago. A team of more than 35 specialists were involved in the project, which has been described as the \u2018People’s Bar\u2019. CEO Paul Graham said the achievement highlighted the strength of the partnerships that underpin Australia’s gold industry.<\/p>\n
“This is much more than a Guinness World Records title. It\u2019s a demonstration of the skill, ingenuity and commitment of our people and the extraordinary standards they achieve every day,\u201d Graham said.<\/p>\n
“Producing a gold bar of this size while maintaining 99.999 per cent purity required meticulous planning, advanced technical expertise and an unwavering focus on quality.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt showcases the refining capability that has made The Perth Mint one of the most respected precious metals institutions in the world.”<\/p>\n
Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records appeared on-site to watch every step of the process, which took three days. Graham revealed that the idea for the project arrived one year ago and that the Mint conducted a ‘practice run’ before it was actually created.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis result reflects the strength of Australia’s gold sector and the trusted partnerships we have built with mining companies across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
“We are incredibly grateful to the producer partners who contributed to this project and helped create something that not only sets a new world record but highlights Australian capability on the global stage.”<\/p>\n
Based on the current price of gold, the \u2018People\u2019s Bar\u2019 is valued at more than $100 million. It will eventually appear on display at the Perth Mint alongside another record-breaking creation, a one-tonne gold coin, which was created in 2011.<\/p>\n
