South Australia has been told LIV Golf<\/a> will continue next year as Adelaide takes another slice of the sport with hosting rights for the men\u2019s Australian Open.<\/p>\n

Adelaide will host men\u2019s and women\u2019s Opens alternately for six years from from 2028, with a redeveloped North Adelaide golf course slated as the venue.<\/p>\n

The city was this year\u2019s women\u2019s Open host but hasn\u2019t staged a men\u2019s national championship for 30 years.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes amid ongoing uncertainty about the future of LIV Golf and its wildly successful Adelaide tournament.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia has pulled funding from the breakaway tour but SA Premier Peter Malinauskas has been told the league will continue in Adelaide next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are telling us that,\u201d Malinauskas told reporters on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not naive to the speculation … but the communications they have had with us is that they are utterly determined to be back here early next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malinauskas cautioned it was a \u201ctime will tell\u201d scenario as LIV Golf scrambles to find other financial backers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been a very good deal for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if anything, the speculation around LIV\u2019s financial losses in other parts of the world, I think, serve to demonstrate that we\u2019ve actually done pretty well out of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, if we didn\u2019t get the crowds that we had, it would be a different story.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it has worked anywhere, it\u2019s been in Australia, and so we would love to see it continue. Time will tell how that plays out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The state government won\u2019t lose money should LIV fold, the premier said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contract that we\u2019ve got with LIV insures our position about what happens,\u201d Malinauskas said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t pay anything if they don\u2019t play and put on a great show.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo time will tell how it plays out but they are nothing but positive about their determination to be here and we\u2019ll wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n

LIV Golf\u2019s Adelaide tournament is due to move from the Grange Golf Club to Kooyonga next year.<\/p>\n

The event will then shift again to the North Adelaide course being redesigned by Greg Norman.<\/p>\n

The course in the city centre will stage the men\u2019s Australian Open in 2028 to commence Adelaide\u2019s six-year stretch as a host city.<\/p>\n

Victoria remains likely to share the men\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a long-term partnership with the Victorian government,\u201d Golf Australia chief James Sutherland said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, we\u2019re working through with them as to the succession.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 2028 Open will be here in Adelaide, we can confirm that here and now, because 2028 is a Presidents Cup year which Victoria will be hosting.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut beyond that, the exact sequencing and years are things to be confirmed and obviously Victoria is a very important partner in those conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n
