A south Brisbane woman has been charged over the death of a non-verbal man who police said was “malnourished”.<\/p>\n

Isaac Oar, also known as “Ike”, was found unresponsive at an address in Ayr in North Queensland on August 10, 2023, in what first responders described as a “confronting” situation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Mr Oar had Down Syndrome and was a recipient of the National Insurance Disability Scheme (NDIS).<\/p>\n

Police said they conducted a “complex” investigation into Mr Oar’s death, finding he was experiencing serious malnourishment and weighed just 29kg at the time of his death.<\/p>\n

At the time, Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said Mr Oar hadn’t received any professional medical treatment in well over a decade.<\/p>\n

“He was only 29 kilos \u2014 that doesn’t happen overnight,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There has obviously been years of neglect in some format.”<\/p>\n

Police said they had investigated his health, care and treatment throughout his life.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, detectives from the Crime Command Homicide Investigation Unit and Ayr Criminal Investigation Branch arrested a 70-year-old woman from Forest Lake and charged her with one count of murder (domestic violence).<\/p>\n
