Police are investigating a suspected targeted arson attack after multiple Molotov cocktails were thrown at two cars outside a Woodcroft home early on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to Mullen Close at 12.30am following reports of an arson attack in a residential driveway.<\/p>\n
Authorities believe four improvised explosive devices were brought to the scene, with three thrown directly at a black Subaru Impreza sedan and a green Holden Commodore sedan.<\/p>\n
Two of the devices exploded on impact, igniting small fires on both vehicles.<\/p>\n
The occupant of the home, with the help of neighbours, acted quickly to extinguish the flames, which limited the damage to be only superficial.<\/p>\n
The Advertiser had spoken to the occupant of the home \u2013 who asked not to be identified \u2013 who said he was relieved to have escaped serious damage to his beloved cars.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the bottles had smashed through the windshield of the car, that could have been much worse,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The car enthusiast believes the attack was perpetrated by some teenagers, who allegedly were making celebratory screams as they drove off.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, police officers have also recovered the remaining two unexploded Molotov cocktails \u2013 made in Red Bowler Whiskey bottles \u2013 which were left behind intact in the driveway and on the street. <\/p>\n
The bottles have been seized for examination, leaving the victim of the attack hopeful police will be able to identify the perpetrators through their fingerprints. <\/p>\n
Neighbour Chris, who asked his surname to be kept private, said he heard the \u201cloud bang\u201d just as he was \u201cnodding off\u201d. <\/p>\n
The sound jolted him awake and he rushed onto the street to see what happened.<\/p>\n
Chris, who helped to put out the small fire, said everything happened very quickly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI raced outside and there was smoke billowing from the car, there was another car that flew past, but I had no idea what was going on,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was just a lot of smoke.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chris said he still felt shaken by what had occurred. <\/p>\n
Just like neighbour Cathy Hocking, who only learnt about the arson attack in the morning, but was left in utter disbelief.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very quiet street,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t remember anything like this happening along here before \u2013 it just shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n
A vehicle was heard speeding away from the street shortly after the attack occurred. <\/p>\n
Detectives do not believe the incident was random.<\/p>\n
