(ABC News: Liam Patrick)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The charges, AFP commissioner Krissy Barrett said, could include &#8220;terrorism offences, such as entering or remaining in declared areas, and crimes against humanity offences such as engaging in slave trading&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Investigations into some women will also continue after their return to Australia, Ms Barrett said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It is understood 21 Australians still remain in the Al Roj camp in north-eastern Syria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Do you know more about this story? Other federal government departments were also contacted for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">For months, Australian officials have said that while they will not help the ISIS-linked families return home, they did not have the power to stop them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">All of the women and children are Australian citizens and hold Australian passports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">One of the women who is believed to still be in the Al Roj camp <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-02-18\/australia-issues-teo-against-isis-linked-citizen-in-syria-camp\/106360092\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106360092\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is subject to a Temporary Exclusion Order<\/a>, which puts restrictions on travelling to Australia for up to two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">At the airport in Doha, Qatar, before boarding their flight to Melbourne, <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-05-07\/isis-linked-families-to-arrive-in-australia-today\/106649946\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106649946\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">some of the women told the ABC they were excited to return home<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We just want our children to be safe.
