{"id":66236,"date":"2026-08-06T06:27:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T06:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/66236\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T06:27:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T06:27:25","slug":"awer-mabil-returns-to-the-a-leagues-with-melbourne-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/66236\/","title":{"rendered":"Awer Mabil returns to the A-Leagues with Melbourne City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After more than a decade overseas, CommBank Socceroos forward Awer Mabil is returning to the Isuzu UTE A-League, joining Melbourne City from LaLiga 2 side CD Castellon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/SOC-26-Home-Kit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/new_kit_banner_v2.jpg\" alt=\"new_kit_banner_v2.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"280\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract until June 2029 and links up with fellow Socceroos teammates in Aziz Behich and Mathew Leckie, who were a part of the squad at FIFA World Cup\u2122 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In 18 months with Castellon, Mabil scored three goals and registered 12 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions<\/p>\n<p>Mabil started his career with Adelaide United and now is back in the competition which launched his professional footballing journey.<\/p>\n<p>After departing the Reds in 2015, Mabil plied his trade in the top divisions of Denmark, Portugal, Spain, T\u00fcrkiye, Czechia, and Switzerland, accumulated more than 300 games, includes appearances in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and would also represent the Socceroos.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon putting pen-to-paper on his deal with City, Mabil said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/melbournecityfc.com.au\/news\/20260806-mabil-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">club statement<\/a>: \u201cAfter spending more than a decade playing in Europe, I\u2019m really excited to be coming home\u00a0to Australia\u00a0and beginning this new journey\u00a0with Melbourne City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing\u00a0Australian football\u00a0from\u00a0afar\u00a0in recent years,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0impossible not to be impressed by what Melbourne City has built.
