{"id":6798,"date":"2026-05-07T12:17:38","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/6798\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T12:17:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:17:38","slug":"world-cup-2026-victorian-government-overturns-world-cup-fan-ban-at-melbournes-federation-square","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/6798\/","title":{"rendered":"World Cup 2026: Victorian government overturns World Cup fan ban at Melbourne&#8217;s Federation Square"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Victorian government has overturned a ban on World Cup matches being shown on big screens at Melbourne&#8217;s Federation Square.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The ban had been put in place by Melbourne Arts Precinct, which manages the venue, after poor behaviour by some supporters at previous events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, state premier Jacinta Allan has now permitted gatherings at the square after Football Australia urged her government to overturn the ban.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I disagree with that decision \u2013 and I am overturning it,&#8221; Allan said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There&#8217;s always a risk of bad behaviour from a few at every public gathering, but police and security will be on site, and there&#8217;ll be zero tolerance for it.
