Two planes have been pictured within metres of each other at Sydney Airport with the near-miss leaving a cabin crew member with a possible broken wrist.<\/p>\n
The incident involved two aircraft, a Qatar flight and Jetstar flight JQ402 from Sydney to the Gold Coast which was taxiing out from its bay at Sydney Airport on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
A Jetstar spokesperson said that crew were \u201cfollowing instructions by Air Traffic Control when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity\u201d.<\/p>\n
A cabin crew member moving through the cabin was injured and had to be treated by paramedics.<\/p>\n
Air traffic radio reveals aftermath<\/p>\n
A crew member speaking on a radio call to Sydney Airport\u2019s traffic control can be heard saying: \u201cWe\u2019ve actually now got an injured cabin manager. We\u2019ll be requiring to turn to the bay, so whenever we can get out of where we are, that\u2019s what our plan is going to be\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pilot … wants to make sure that the wing gets clear of the nose of the Qatari as he makes that left turn.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s priority so if somebody could get there as quickly as possible that would be appreciated.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we can have the paramedics in attendance please.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ground control replied: \u201cWe\u2019ll get them moving on the way, and I\u2019ve got a safety officer on the way to see if we can get that left turn working for you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThanks for the support, I believe it\u2019s a possible fractured, broken wrist,\u201d the Jetstar plane replies.<\/p>\n
No passengers were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n
The return flight has been cancelled and customers will be rebooked onto later services to the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
NSW Premier Chris Minns said that he is \u201cconcerned\u201d about the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously [we are] concerned, not just the safety risks, but we want to to make sure that the airport is operating at full capacity,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s hugely important for our economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jetstar said that \u201cnothing matters more to us than the safety of our customers and crew\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur captain acted quickly and decisively, exactly as our crew are trained to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
An investigation into the incident has been launched.<\/p>\n
