{"id":68094,"date":"2026-08-09T06:53:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/68094\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T06:53:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:53:09","slug":"australia-investigates-near-miss-collision-of-two-planes-at-sydney-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/68094\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia investigates near-miss collision of two planes at Sydney airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Jetstar A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 narrowly avoided colliding on the tarmac at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/conferences\/article-899663\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sydney<\/a> airport on Sunday, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau was told, it said, as it began an investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Jetstar plane was taxiing for take-off to Queensland state&#8217;s Gold Coast when its flight crew saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-904839\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Qatar<\/a> Airways plane, which was being towed by an aircraft tug, very close on a crossing taxiway, the regulator said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;Both aircraft were stopped abruptly,&#8221; the transport safety bureau said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">A cabin crew member on the Jetstar plane was injured, and the connection between the Qatar Airways plane&#8217;s nose gear and the aircraft tug was damaged, the regulator said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Jetstar, the budget arm of Australia&#8217;s national carrier Qantas, said it was investigating the incident, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aircraft was following instructions by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-900989\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Air Traffic Control<\/a> when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity,&#8221; a Jetstar spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Qatar Airways did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The incident comes a day after Sydney Airport was hit by widespread delays sparked by government agency Airservices Australia enacting &#8220;departure spacing&#8221; due to roster problems with air traffic controllers.<\/p>\n<p>Airservices <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/aliyah\/article-904751\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a> did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Jetstar A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 narrowly avoided colliding on the tarmac at Sydney airport&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":68095,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[2805,23,1999,88692,247],"class_list":["post-68094","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sydney","tag-airport","tag-australia","tag-plane","tag-qatar","tag-sydney"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68094","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=68094"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68094\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/68095"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=68094"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=68094"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=68094"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
