Both aircraft came to a stop and paramedics were called in to assess a Jetstar cabin crew member, however no passengers were injured. Qatar Airways did not respond to The National&#8217;s request for a comment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-3-M6THI45UYBHITNLRCDJEUZHLNU\">A ground controller and tug operator were stood down from their duties and would undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing in line with standard policy, Australian media quoted the Transport Minister Catherine King as saying. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-5-M45T3CIIENGWPD2XS7KVFBKK3E\">\u201cAs the ATSB [Australian Transport Safety Bureau] will be investigating, it would not be appropriate to provide further commentary at this time,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-7-QTQ2DU6THNF73CJACJEVDS6SHE\">Australian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/travel\/2023\/05\/30\/worlds-best-budget-airlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/travel\/2023\/05\/30\/worlds-best-budget-airlines\/\">low-cost carrier<\/a> Jetstar said its aircraft had been following air traffic control instructions when pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came into proximity. The airline has launched its own investigation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-8-TWTS3D7T6ZF5DDSUNS5WCWCEHE\">The ATSB said the incident caused damage to the connection between the Boeing 777\u2019s nose gear and its tug. Investigators will examine data from both aircraft and air traffic control, CCTV footage and interview flight crew, tug operators, controllers and other witnesses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-9-QUEP2K5ZOJB25BI7SX6SOYB6OI\">ATSB chief commissioner Angus Mitchell said it was too early to determine where any communication breakdown occurred. <\/p>\n<p>Second incident<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-11-JDOD5V6ASZAHXFJTCJAFQGZ6ZY\">The incident is the second near-miss at Sydney, the busiest aviation hub in the country, in two weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-13-RAR2TBOAVJFBRMUDNWUHDJ3ADM\">In the earlier incident on July 27, air traffic control cleared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/travel\/2026\/07\/30\/qantas-project-sunrise-airbus-a350-flightradar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/travel\/2026\/07\/30\/qantas-project-sunrise-airbus-a350-flightradar\/\">Qantas<\/a> Boeing 737 to cross a runway while a QantasLink Dash-8 arriving from Canberra was still completing its landing roll. Controllers detected the conflict and the 737 stopped short of the runway. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-14-MEI7ADIMD5C7TBNNT3UVWNASSQ\">The ATSB identified a \u201cbreakdown of co-ordination\u201d and is investigating.
