{"id":68946,"date":"2026-08-10T11:11:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T11:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/68946\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:11:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T11:11:05","slug":"new-fremantle-traffic-bridge-to-open-ahead-of-schedule-before-end-of-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/68946\/","title":{"rendered":"New Fremantle Traffic Bridge to open ahead of schedule before end of 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Commuters can expect an early reprieve from traffic pain as the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge looks set to open before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The old traffic bridge was closed on February 1 causing headaches for commuters who were forced to detour via the Stirling Bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">It was originally expected to be closed for up to 12 months, with an opening time for the new bridge in the first half of 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">But significant progress has accelerated that timeline, with the State Government now estimating it will be open and ready for traffic before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt is a big win for the community that the new Fremantle traffic bridge is on track to fully open later this year,\u201d Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe Fremantle bridge will cut travel time for commuters, create new community spaces, and make the river wider and safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The joint $430 million State and Federal Government project has been in the works since 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Despite the tricky environment of constructing the bridge near a major operating port, it was smooth sailing for the successful demolition of the old timber bridge while towers for the new bridge were constructed at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/0c9b0f1e0f136c702436d97269e238aeb4ef369c.jpg\" alt=\"The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge is progressing ahead of schedule and will be open before the end of the year. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconThe new Fremantle Traffic Bridge is progressing ahead of schedule and will be open before the end of the year.
