{"id":69054,"date":"2026-08-10T18:20:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T18:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/69054\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T18:20:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T18:20:27","slug":"telethon-2026-wanneroo-to-host-24-hour-swimathon-for-telethon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/69054\/","title":{"rendered":"Telethon 2026: Wanneroo to host 24-hour swimathon for Telethon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A 24-hour swimathon is set to make waves in Perth\u2019s north in October, with swimmers of all abilities encouraged to take the plunge for Telethon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The inaugural event will be hosted by the City of Wanneroo at Wanneroo Aquamotion over Telethon weekend, October 17 and 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">From experienced lap swimmers and sporting clubs to groups of friends, participants can take on the challenge individually or as a team, with the event broken into four-hour blocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said the city was pleased to launch the event in support of the 59th annual Telethon, and the children and families it supported across WA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt is a privilege to play a part in Telethon weekend by hosting this fun challenge at Aquamotion,\u201d Ms Aitken said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cEvery lap completed and every dollar raised will help support children when they need it most, raising vital funds for life-changing services, programs, equipment and medical research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/0ea8badd2b6afd199b8e45cadc64783406df746d-161x229-x46y316w2590h3684.jpg\" alt=\"Mayor Linda Aitken and Toby with Fat Cat and Tayla Taseff at Wanneroo Aquamotion. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconMayor Linda Aitken and Toby with Fat Cat and Tayla Taseff at Wanneroo Aquamotion.  Credit:  Jess Lansell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Given the City\u2019s Dolphin Program has helped children and adults of all abilities develop confidence, independence and lifelong water safety skills in an inclusive environment for the past 25 years, Ms Aitken said Aquamotion was a fitting location for the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe Swimathon builds on this commitment by bringing people together to raise funds that will have a lasting impact on the lives of young Western Australians and their families,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Last year\u2019s Telethon raised a record-breaking $90.16 million, bringing the total raised since its inception in 1968 to more than $775m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The funds support more than 100 beneficiaries across WA in 2026, including organisations providing medical care, research, therapies and support services for children and families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Individuals and teams of up to four can register for the Wanneroo Swimathon for $50, with participants encouraged to seek sponsorship and raise funds beyond the entry fee to further support Telethon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">With only 60 time slots available, places are expected to fill quickly.
