{"id":69514,"date":"2026-08-11T09:27:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T09:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/69514\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T09:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T09:27:09","slug":"victoria-flood-warnings-wangaratta-at-risk-as-rivers-surge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/69514\/","title":{"rendered":"Victoria flood warnings: Wangaratta at risk as rivers surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A dozen flood warnings are in place across Victoria after a cold front brought massive downpours across the state over several days.<\/p>\n<p>The deluge has put Wangaratta at risk of major flooding as water continues to flow through central and northern Victoria rivers after days of heavy rainfall, which saw Mount Buffalo record 166mm of rain on Monday, according to Weatherzone.<\/p>\n<p>A major flood warning is in place for the Ovens River, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) warning river levels were close to the major flood level and would peak on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRainfall across the Ovens and King River catchments since Sunday morning has resulted in river level rises and minor to moderate flooding along the Ovens and King Rivers,\u201d the warning reads. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRainfall has eased, however further river level rises and areas of minor to major flooding are possible as floodwaters from the upper catchment flow downstream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BOM warned the Ovens River at Wangaratta was 12.62m high, steady with moderate flooding and may remain around the major flood level before it was expected to peak near 12.7m on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The Ovens River at Eurobin recorded a height of 4.14m after 9am on Tuesday, Buffalo River at Lake Buffalo was at 3.98m high and Ovens River at Rocky Point was at 3.82m.<\/p>\n<p>Residents were told to keep away from floodwaters because it was dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous,\u201d BOM warned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don\u2019t drive on flooded roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flood warnings were in place across NSW but have since been cancelled with BOM advising flooding was no longer expected in the Yarra River upstream of Warrandyte, Upper Murray or Mitta Mitta River catchments.<\/p>\n<p>Severe and damaging weather saw sustained wind speeds reach 106km\/h were at Thredbo Top Station on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>NSW residents were warned while conditions had eased across the State, strong wind gusts were still expected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep clear of fallen power lines,\u201d the State Emergency Services warned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t walk, ride or drive through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains and beware of fallen trees or debris on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flooding along the Bremer River in South Australia also began falling on Tuesday with water below minor flood levels near Wanstead Rd and Langhorne Creek.<\/p>\n<p>The wild weather caused chaos across Adelaide on Monday which saw three people being rescued from a flooded intersection in the
