Burrata closes Adelaide CBD store after six months

A business serving up viral burrata bowls is set to close the doors to their permanent location after six months of operation.

Project Burrata is closing their bricks and mortar shop on Wyatt Street in Adelaide’s CBD after opening the location in February of this year.

The popular spot took to socials to announce the store closing and said “after an incredible six months, we’ll be closing the doors to our store on 21 August”.

Co-owners of Project Burrata, Michael and Stefan Calderisi, said opening the little space was a huge moment for them.

“We’re so proud of what it has become,” the post said.

“Thank you to everyone who came through the doors, ordered a bowl and supported us week after week.”

The permanent shop opened in February when it was claimed as the first burrata bar South Australia had seen.

The creamy burrata was the main star of each dish, with bowls ranging from being paired with a ragu sauce, to porchetta.

Renew Adelaide assisted with the opening of the store.

“Massive thanks to Renew Adelaide for giving us the opportunity to bring our first store to life,” the post said.

Renew Adelaide chief executive Gianna Murphy said their program had given the owners the chance to test a permanent location.

“The Renew Adelaide program worked exactly as intended, giving the boys an opportunity to test their idea, refine it and soon become a permanent part of the lively city economy,” she said.

However the announcement said it wasn’t the end for Project Burrata and they will still do pop-ups, festivals, markets and catering, how the business was operating before the spot opened up.

“While this chapter is ending, Project Burrata isn’t going anywhere,” they said.

Loyal customers took to the comments to express their disappointment about the closure.

“Sad times for now, but can’t wait to see where to from here,” one user said.

Another customer found the place on a whim and are sad about the doors closing.

“I’m so sad to hear this!” they said.

“We discovered you guys spontaneously on a trip to Adelaide and were just so impressed with the food.

“My friend and I actually tried to recreate your porchetta bowl because we loved it so much.”

Project Burrata closes their doors August 21.

Originally published as <a class="body-link"
