Ten year old Braymond Pyke had to be airlifted to hospital after injuring his neck when he rode his motorbike into a piece of rope that had been strung up across an outback Queensland dirt bike track.<\/p>\n

His mum, Bronwyn Wood, said they were getting ready to head home late on Friday when he begged her to go for one last ride around the track just outside Cunnamulla, about 790km west of Brisbane.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s like ‘please mum’, so of course I let him go for one more lap,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

But she said she soon heard Braymond\u2019s scream for help.<\/p>\n

“My son was just bleeding from the throat,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s the worst thing \u2026 you never want to imagine.<\/p>\n

“I’ve never seen him in so much pain. It was horrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she drove her son straight to the Cunnamulla hospital before he was flown to Roma and on to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

Braymond returned home to Cunnamulla on Monday nursing severe rope burn, scratches on his neck, and some internal bruising after the clotheslining incident.<\/p>\n

“The relief, knowing that the outcome could have been so much worse. He is one very lucky boy,” Ms Wood said.<\/p>\n

Ropes potentially left by drovers<\/p>\n

Police said they are investigating the crash and have patrolled the track for any further risks.<\/p>\n

Braymond\u2019s\u00a0dad, Brendon Pyke, said the area along Old Charleville\u00a0Road had been used by drovers recently and suggested it was possible that the ropes had mistakenly been left up.<\/p>\n

“It’s electric fence wire designed to hold cattle in,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I can’t say for sure but I’m thinking maybe they have left it behind.”<\/p>\n

Mr Pyke said it was drovers’ responsibility to mark any ropes or wires and take them down when they were done.<\/p>\n

He said they couldn\u2019t confirm how the wire was left up, but also didn\u2019t rule out that it could have been tied up by someone intentionally.<\/p>\n

He warned families to be cautious.<\/p>\n

“Double check where your kids are going to be riding,” he said.<\/p>\n

Cunnamulla resident Troy Nelson started to maintain the motorbike track when his own two boys started riding several years ago.<\/p>\n

Mr Nelson and his sons found about 10 similar ropes in the area following Braymond\u2019s injury and cut them all down.<\/p>\n

He said Braymond\u2019s injury was not the first case he had heard of recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly a couple of weeks ago, another kid actually got caught as well on a rope,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
