(AAP: Dave Hunt)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">While on the witness stand, she agreed she had taken her child to a police station in the days after, and officers photographed her alleged injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Following her evidence, Ms Bryson told the court her client consented to having his case progress to a higher court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">After being committed to stand trial in the Brisbane District Court, Mr McGuire was asked if he had anything to say to the charges or wanted to enter a plea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He responded &#8220;no your honour&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr McGuire, who is on bail, also applied to have some of his conditions varied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">However, magistrate Belinda Merrin rejected part of this application, telling the court the allegations were &#8220;extremely serious&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There is evidence which is consistent with the allegations of choking,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Mainly markings to the complainant child&#8217;s neck, [and the child&#8217;s] immediate demeanour was consistent with there having been something very upsetting having occurred.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr McGuire, who played NRL between 2009 and 2022, and represented the Maroons more than a dozen times, will have his case return to court at a later date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A former Queensland State of Origin player accused of seriously assaulting a child has been committed to stand&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":71269,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[2304,99,637,1958,4693,827,2768,1109,98914,98913,1406,80636,3602,3771],"class_list":["post-71268","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brisbane","tag-assault","tag-brisbane","tag-brisbane-broncos","tag-brisbane-magistrates-court","tag-child","tag-child-abuse","tag-committal-hearing","tag-court","tag-josh-mcguire","tag-joshua-mcguire","tag-nrl","tag-nrl-grand-final","tag-queensland-maroons","tag-state-of-origin"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/71268","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=71268"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/71268\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/71269"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=71268"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=71268"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=71268"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
