{"id":71930,"date":"2026-08-14T08:20:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T08:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/71930\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T08:20:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T08:20:06","slug":"overhead-wires-come-down-on-sydney-passenger-train-causing-major-delays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/71930\/","title":{"rendered":"Overhead wires come down on Sydney passenger train causing major delays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">There are major delays across Sydney&#8217;s rail network after overhead wires came down onto a passenger train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The South Coast Line service was travelling between Redfern and Erskineville, in Sydney&#8217;s inner west, when the wires came down about 5pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Transport authorities have isolated power to the train and are working to safely remove passengers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Sydney Trains&#8217; head of rail operations, Jas Tumber, said the cause was unknown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This is a really significant disruption that&#8217;s causing really wide ripple effects,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We obviously don&#8217;t know the cause of that at the moment, but we are working to understand and get response teams out to that particular train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;That has resulted in us having to remove power between Central and Newtown on two of the six tracks that go in and out of the city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Sydney Trains said there would be delays and gaps in services across the network for the rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It has significantly impacted the T2, T3, T8, T1, North Shore and the Western Line, as well as the T9 services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We also have an impact to our intercity customers who are leaving from Sydney terminal, so because of this power outage, we&#8217;re not able to operate any intercity services that are going west or north,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He recommended passengers catch a suburban train to Blacktown or Parramatta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Those trains that typically would have come in from the west and the north or into the city, they&#8217;ll be turning around at Parramatta, Strathfield or Hornsby,&#8221; Mr Tumber said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Passengers are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time and consider alternative travel options.<\/p>\n<p>Loading<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There are major delays across Sydney&#8217;s rail network after overhead wires came down onto a passenger train.
