Blockbuster global events and a focus on businesses growth helped deliver a record $2.3bn boost to Brisbane\u2019s economy. <\/p>\n
New figures from Brisbane Economic Development Agency reveal the multibillion-dollar boost supported more than 18,000 jobs and created 744 new ones last financial year through increased trade in Brisbane\u2019s hotels, restaurants and tourism operators.<\/p>\n
Hosting major events including the British & Irish Lions Tour, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, NRL Magic Round and Bluey\u2019s World contributed $411m to the city\u2019s economy, while international conferences and incentive travel added $103m.<\/p>\n
Programs to help businesses reach global capital and new markets generated more than $1.5bn.<\/p>\n
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the record economic boost had delivered more jobs and more local offerings for Brisbane residents. <\/p>\n
\u201cBehind these numbers are real jobs for Brisbane locals, more customers walking through the doors of our small businesses and more visitors filling our hotels, cafes and restaurants,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we bring major events and new investment to Brisbane, it is our residents who feel the benefit in the work it creates and the opportunities it opens up close to home. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is why we are Australia\u2019s lifestyle capital and every result like this builds a stronger, more prosperous Brisbane as we look towards 2032 and beyond.\u201d <\/p>\n
Domestic and international visitor spending hit a record $17.1bn on the back of increased investment in destination marketing.<\/p>\n
Brisbane Economic Development Agency chief executive Anthony Ryan said the agency\u2019s record $2.3bn result was proof of the economic momentum being experienced. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve helped deliver one of the biggest major events calendars in the country, while supporting the growth of Brisbane\u2019s visitor economy to record levels and securing significant new investment for the city,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cBrisbane\u2019s momentum is extraordinary, and our role is to keep bringing the right people together to turn that momentum into jobs, growth and lasting economic value. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re proud of what we\u2019ve achieved this year, but our work doesn\u2019t stop.<\/p>\n
