Sydney Swans chief executive Matthew Pavlich says he is \u201cextremely shocked and disappointed\u201d to learn several players have been caught up in a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault at a Melbourne hotel.<\/p>\n

The Swans maintained momentum towards the AFL finals with a win over the Bombers at the MCG but there was allegedly an incident at their hotel afterwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice are investigating a report of a sexual assault in East Melbourne on 17 August,\u201d a Victoria Police spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident occurred at a hotel on Wellington Parade in the early hours of the morning. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe exact circumstances are yet to be established and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.<\/p>\n

The Herald Sun reported that as many as eight police officers with clipboards and cameras were seen around the venue on Sunday.<\/p>\n

An \u201cextremely shocked and disappointed\u201d Sydney chief executive Matthew Pavlich fronted the media on Monday for less than a minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can confirm that several players were involved in an alleged incident last night in Melbourne,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve identified this to the AFL. We are working with them and also the relevant authorities on this matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still piecing together exactly what\u2019s transpired here and have our own set of inquiries ongoing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s safe to say we\u2019re extremely shocked and disappointed that this has taken place and that the players have found themselves in this situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the level of interest in the matter. There\u2019s going to be lots of speculation, but given it\u2019s a police matter right now that\u2019s all we can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Swans also released a brief statement on Monday afternoon confirming an \u201calleged incident\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sydney Swans can confirm several players were involved in an alleged incident in Melbourne last night,\u201d the club said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Swans have notified the AFL and relevant authorities, and cannot provide further comment at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sydney is currently second on the ladder and faces North Melbourne this weekend.<\/p>\n
