{"id":74016,"date":"2026-08-17T16:07:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T16:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/74016\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T16:07:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T16:07:22","slug":"four-people-connected-to-pork-industry-charged-with-large-scale-financial-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/74016\/","title":{"rendered":"Four people connected to pork industry charged with large-scale financial crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Four people connected with the pork meat industry have been charged over alleged large-scale financial crimes that saw tens of millions of dollars funnelled out of businesses for personal use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It is alleged the individuals, who are all business owners or representatives in the pork meat industry, kept $10 million in sales off the books for personal use and moved more than $30 million in cash between New South Wales and Queensland between 2017 and 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Two individuals from Queensland have been charged with offences including fraud, destroying records, receiving tainted property and making false declarations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They have also been accused of fraudulently relabelling frozen meat products to alter production and best-before dates, which authorities have confirmed did not pose a risk to food safety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Both will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The two individuals from New South Wales are facing charges related to the destruction of records with intent to defraud.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Pork chops on display at butcher, no prices\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/7bc30c4c39ec5e9f585c03e7790bae29.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">It&#8217;s alleged the two individuals from Queensland altered use by dates on product labels.\u00a0 (ABC: Bec Whetham)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The charges follow a joint investigation involving the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC), New South Wales Police Anti-Money Laundering Unit and the New South Wales Crime Commission (NSWCC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">CCC acting senior executive officer (crime) Cameron Rentz said it was a complex operation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Complex financial crime is often sophisticated and deliberately concealed,&#8221;  he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This operation reflects the CCC&#8217;s commitment to disrupting serious criminal offending that undermines the integrity of legitimate business activity and the Queensland economy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">More than $25 million worth of assets, including $3 million in cash and two motor vehicles, have been seized as suspected proceeds of the crimes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">NSW Police Anti-Money Laundering Unit coordinator Detective Inspector Gilbert Laverdure said organised crime often crossed borders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Criminal networks that seek to exploit business structures and move illicit funds across state borders should expect to be identified and investigated,&#8221;  he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">NSWCC executive director of operations Darren Bennett said significant assets had been seized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The NSW Crime Commission \u2026 will now begin the process of returning proceeds of crime to the people of New South Wales,&#8221;
