Eugenie names baby Adelaide<\/p>\n

The princess, 36, said she and her husband Jack Brooksbank chose a name from \u201cthree people we love and admire past and present,\u201d and Eugenie said her daughter\u2019s names were \u201cpart of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home\u201d.<\/p>\n

Buckingham Palace announced the baby\u2019s birth on August 3, and the post said King Charles and Queen Camilla were \u201cdelighted\u201d at the news.<\/p>\n

Eugenie gave birth in Portugal, where she and Brooksbank live when not in London, and the baby is the third child for the couple following August in 2021 and Ernest in 2023 at the Portland Hospital in London.<\/p>\n

Line of succession and links<\/p>\n

The baby is 15th in line to the throne and is not expected to receive a royal title, according to Nine.au, and the new arrival is the third child for Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank.<\/p>\n

The name \u201cElizabeth\u201d was taken from Eugenie\u2019s grandmother Elizabeth II, who the princess said \u201cwe hold close in our hearts,\u201d and \u201cAdelaide\u201d was inspired by Queen Adelaide, who was married to King William IV and queen consort between 1830 to 1837.<\/p>\n

The name Adelaide was also inspired by the late Maria Adelaide of Portugal, a princess from the House of Braganza famed for being part of the resistance during World War II, and the source says Portugal\u2019s other famous Adelaide is Santa Maria Adelaide, a popular figure known for her dedication to helping the poor throughout the 1800s.<\/p>\n

In addition to the naming, the source says the baby would have been the 15th great-grandchild of the late queen and the third to be born since her death in 2022.<\/p>\n

Birth details and public reaction<\/p>\n

Eugenie\u2019s Instagram post included three new photos, including one of her sons August, five, and Ernest, three, with their new sister, and she wrote, \u201cAugie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The AP-style report in WRAL says the girl born Aug. 3 in Lisbon, Portugal, weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces (3-kilogram), and it quotes Eugenie saying, \u201cTwo weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Royal fans responded to the announcement with comments praising the name, and News24 quoted one fan saying, \u201cSuch a beautiful name and lovely pictures.
