A huge search is underway in Sydney to locate a rare and expensive bird that flew off from his enclosure in Pyrmont.<\/p>\n

Twisty is a $30,000 yellow and white macaw that belongs to Doltone House founder Paul Signorelli.<\/p>\n

He escaped from his enclosure when a door was accidentally left unlocked on the rooftop garden at Doltone House on Tuesday, 2GB\u2019s traffic reporter Will Bottom said. <\/p>\n

Mr Bottom joined a search to locate Twisty and spotted him up an 11m tree about 11m tall where the rare bird fell asleep.<\/p>\n

A number of people threw Twisty some walnuts, his favourite food, to try and wake the bird up and lure him out of the tree.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ended up having the fire and rescue crews from Pyrmont come down,\u201d Mr Bottom told 2GB.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey brought down two fire trucks, and the idea was to shoot some water up into the sky that would then come down on top of Twisty and hopefully bring him out of the tree. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut it didn\u2019t quite go as planned, and that\u2019s when he then took off and went over the top of the Maritime Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Bottom said another macaw was brought in to try and lure Twisty to safety.<\/p>\n

But it did not go as planned, and the bird flew over the top of Darling Harbour before he was spotted on some rope near Sussex St, the police station on Day St and near some Darling Quarter restaurants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s where he was left last night, they were hoping that he wouldn\u2019t fly anywhere in the night and would just stay there at the top of this gum tree that was about seven stories tall,\u201d Mr Bottom said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve gone back at first light this morning, and Twisty\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m told that there are some cockatoos that normally travel that way towards Centennial Park, and that he might have gone with the cockatoos. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut at this stage, there\u2019s been no sightings of Twisty today, and the Signorelli family are very distressed.\u201d<\/p>\n

A $1000 reward has been offered for Twisty\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n
