The City of South Perth has officially opened nominations for its 2027 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.<\/p>\n
The awards, which aim to recognise the people who make the City of South Perth a better place, celebrate individuals and organisations whose dedication, generosity and community spirit have made a lasting impact, whether through years of voluntary service or a significant contribution to the community.<\/p>\n
Contributions can include \u2014 but are not limited to \u2014 education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, employment, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that strengthens the community.<\/p>\n
There are four categories: community citizen of the year, young community citizen of the year, senior community citizen of the year; and active citizenship (group or event).<\/p>\n
Troy Dixon was the recipient of the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Award, recognising more than 40 years of service to the South Perth Lions Rugby League Club.<\/p>\n
He began as a ball boy and progressed to become a long-service Junior Club committee member. He has helped generations of young players while fostering a safe, inclusive and family-focused sporting environment.<\/p>\n
City of South Perth mayor Greg Milner said the awards were an opportunity to celebrate people such as Troy, whose quiet dedication often had an extraordinary impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day, people across our community give their time, skills and compassion to support others without expecting recognition,\u201d Mr Milner said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Community Citizen of the Year Awards are our chance to acknowledge these outstanding individuals and organisations, celebrate their achievements and thank them for the positive difference they make in the lives of others.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you know someone who inspires others, strengthens our community or has made an exceptional contribution, I encourage you to nominate them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nominations close on October 31 and winners will be announced at the city\u2019s Australia Day morning ceremony on January 26.<\/p>\n
