{"id":75820,"date":"2026-08-19T19:33:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T19:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/75820\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T19:33:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T19:33:13","slug":"2-million-childcare-centre-planned-for-neglected-corner-site-left-vacant-for-22-years-in-eden-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/75820\/","title":{"rendered":"$2 million childcare centre planned for neglected corner site left vacant for 22 years in Eden Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Plans for a two-storey $2 million childcare centre at a former petrol station site in Eden Hill that has been vacant for almost 22 years have been recommended for approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The proposal, which will be considered by the Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel on August 20, will accommodate up to 55 children aged up to 5 years old and 12 staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">According to the proposal, the centre at 72 Walter Road East will operate only on weekdays between 7am and 6pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The design, which went through several iterations through a Design Review Panel process, says it draws inspiration from nearby heritage-listed Eden Hill Primary School and local character, with the development using red brick, white weatherboard cladding, and a pitched roof form.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The design also includes circular shaped windows, charcoal-coloured window and door frames, and dark roofing and awnings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/740cc564c64882bd8f546c14b96a1f6f4fa74d12.jpg\" alt=\"The proposed Eden Hill childcare centre.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconThe proposed Eden Hill childcare centre. Credit: Germand Designs<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The ground floor of the two-storey building will have the main entry, kitchen, preparation rooms, nappy change facilities, three activity rooms for different age groups, and a cot room with its own window.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The first floor is for staff and administration containing a staff room, amenities, planning office, and a laundry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The rear of the building, on the northern side, will have a 389sqm outdoor play area with native sensory gardens, shared zones, natural play elements such as a creek and water pump, and a range of trees.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ce12c32e3ce724579187cf03fb805edf8fe37364.jpg\" alt=\"Plans for the Eden Hill childcare centre.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconPlans for the Eden Hill childcare centre.
