{"id":76130,"date":"2026-08-20T02:33:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T02:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/76130\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T02:33:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T02:33:11","slug":"missing-hiker-lily-hooper-found-in-nsw-southern-highlands-after-eight-day-search","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/76130\/","title":{"rendered":"Missing hiker Lily Hooper found in NSW Southern Highlands after eight-day search"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Missing bushwalker Lily Hooper has been found after an eight-day search in the NSW Southern Highlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">NSW Premier Chris Minns confirmed the news in parliament and thanked search teams for their hard work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 18-year-old left her home south-west of Sydney on the morning of Wednesday, August 12, to go hiking in the Nattai National Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Her car was later found near the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">NSW Police have used a thermal-imaging helicopter and examined telecommunications data in an effort to trace Ms Hooper&#8217;s last movements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The premier was addressing a budget estimates hearing when a staffer passed him a note.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">After reading it, he turned to the staff member for confirmation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Is this accurate?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Minns turns to side in parliament \" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/811fb09a289d143ff9a7dde9f15e24df.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The premier was handed a note advising him Lily Hooper had been found. (ABC News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">After being told the information was correct, he told the hearing he had some &#8220;fantastic news&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Lily Hooper has been found alive,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;[She was] found in the bush with half a bottle of water with her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I just want to thank the New South Wales Police, the SES, the Australian Defence Force, and literally the hundreds of volunteers who got in there and helped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I can imagine her family are just over the moon and everybody in New South Wales is rooting for her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Loading<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Missing bushwalker Lily Hooper has been found after an eight-day search in the NSW Southern Highlands.
