{"id":7661,"date":"2026-05-08T19:49:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T19:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/7661\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T19:49:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T19:49:08","slug":"agwa-presents-first-solo-exhibition-by-stormie-mills-to-be-held-at-an-australian-state-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/7661\/","title":{"rendered":"AGWA presents first solo exhibition by Stormie Mills to be held at an Australian State gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Renowned WA street artist Stormie Mills will have his first solo exhibition at an Australian State gallery in August, four decades into a career that has played a decisive role in redefining the contemporary artform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Opening at The Art Gallery of WA on August 1, major exhibition All The Secrets Are Buried Between The Oceans And The Mountains will feature a selection of Mills\u2019 art from across his career \u2014 many sourced from collectors \u2014 alongside a new body of work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cWhen I was just shy of 21, I remember going into the State gallery then and thinking, \u2018Wow, what would it be like to be exhibited in this space?\u2019\u201d Mills said, who splits his time between Perth and Venice, Italy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI wasn\u2019t dreaming big, I was just thinking of one piece. So to be given so much space and supported with so much freedom for this exhibition has been amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The exhibition will include two monumental 12m-long paintings, one referencing the oceans and the other, the mountains, as Mills\u2019 most recent works reflect his global movements, personal history and encounters that have influenced his distinctive artistic practice since he began painting in 1984.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cHad I been offered an exhibition 10 years ago, I don\u2019t know that I would have been ready,\u201d Mills said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI\u2019m not sure that I would have had the artistic or emotional maturity to be able to do it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/feebdce119098da05919aa815f6e086ed81aa121-161x229-x0y0w2471h3514.jpg\" alt=\"Stormie Mills\u2019 All The Secrets Are Buried Between The Oceans And The Mountains at AGWA will be his first solo exhibition at an Australian State gallery.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\" height=\"3514\" width=\"2471\"\/>Camera IconStormie Mills\u2019 All The Secrets Are Buried Between The Oceans And The Mountains at AGWA will be his first solo exhibition at an Australian State gallery.
