{"id":76704,"date":"2026-08-20T18:35:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/76704\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T18:35:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:35:11","slug":"west-coast-drive-deteriorated-coastal-barrier-in-perths-north-set-for-1-13m-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/76704\/","title":{"rendered":"West Coast Drive \u2018deteriorated\u2019 coastal barrier in Perth\u2019s north set for $1.13m upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A section of the popular coastal walking route along West Coast Drive could see some disruption in the coming months as the City of Stirling rebuilds part of the coastal retaining wall and replace \u201cdeteriorated\u201d handrails.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The upgrade will span about 287m of West Coast Drive in North Beach, from the North Beach Road roundabout to around 70m south of Hamersley Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">About 67m of the retaining wall between the shared path and the beach will be demolished and rebuilt, while the existing balustrades will be replaced to improve \u201cpublic safety, durability and long-term performance\u201d, according to the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Crews will inspect and remediate the exposed limestone wall, with new coping stones to be constructed and installed to support the new stainless steel balustrading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The city looks set to formally award the contract to Kardan Construction, which recently carried out a $1 million facelift of the Mirrabooka Town Square for the city last year, at its next council meeting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/feec548cb2162c92377d8e6ffe83e59b7cded790.jpg\" alt=\"Part of the West Coast Drive retaining wall south of North Beach Road will be fixed.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconPart of the West Coast Drive retaining wall south of North Beach Road will be fixed.
