A staff member at a school on Adelaide\u2019s coast has been charged with a historical child sexual offence. <\/p>\n
The primary school, which The Advertiser has chosen not to name for legal reasons, sent a letter to its community on Wednesday notifying them a staff member at the campus had been arrested. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis incident does not involve any students at our site and there is no evidence at this stage to suggest any student at our site is involved,\u201d the letter said. <\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, I am concerned about the welfare of all students at our site because they may have had contact with the staff member at one time or another.\u201d <\/p>\n
The letter details the staff member is prevented from engaging in any child related work \u201cand has been instructed not to attend any department site\u201d. <\/p>\n
Police are investigating following the arrest. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you have any concerns about the safety and welfare of your child, please feel free to contact me directly at our school,\u201d the letter said. <\/p>\n
Families were directed to seek support if required. <\/p>\n
After The Advertiser made inquiries an SA Police spokesman said a man in his 30s from the southern suburbs was arrested on August 8. <\/p>\n
\u201cPolice are aware of a letter sent by the Department of Education,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The man will attend the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on September 14. <\/p>\n
Near identical letters were sent to the communities of at least two other schools, including a secondary campus. <\/p>\n
The Education Department did not confirm whether those letters referred to the same male staff member in his 30s. <\/p>\n
A spokeswoman said: \u201cThe Department for Education has a policy around informing a school community at the appropriate time whenever allegations of sexual misconduct are made against any person who has been involved in any capacity at a school\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis letter has been issued in keeping with the protocols laid out in the Debelle Report,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cParents have been provided with guidance for support around the wellbeing of their child if this information raises any concerns for them.\u201d <\/p>\n
