Credit: 7NEWS<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Unable to reach his phone, Tann used Siri to call triple-0.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">His two dogs, Hugo and Snowy, stayed by his side, barking and helping keep him awake until paramedics arrived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Tann spent five months in hospital, with the stroke leaving him with limited movement on his dominant left side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/strokefoundation.org.au\/\">Stroke Foundation<\/a> said a stroke can happen to people of any age and symptoms can vary, urging people to think F.A.S.T. and call emergency services immediately if they notice the following signs: <\/p>\n<p>F \u2014 Face: Check if their face has drooped.A \u2014 Arms: Can they raise both arms?S \u2014 Speech: Is their speech slurred or unusual?T \u2014 Time: If you notice any of these signs, call triple-0 immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Searching for ways to get out and reconnect with life, Daniel discovered a Paralympic \u201ccome and try\u201d day and picked up a bow for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Now he is training almost every day, using a specially designed shoulder harness to help him draw the bow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The rehabilitation has now evolved into something much bigger, with Tann listed in Australian archery rankings as a <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/paralympics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Para male Compound competitor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6ad983c6471cb80f0905ff8ed81659d9fedeb957-16x9-x0y0w1280h720.jpg\" alt=\"Daniel Tann spent five months in hospital after the stroke, beginning a long road back to independence.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"720\" width=\"1280\"\/>Daniel Tann spent five months in hospital after the stroke, beginning a long road back to independence. Credit: 7NEWS<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">With a harness around his shoulders and a release mechanism controlled near his mouth, Tann has adapted the bow to work with the body he has now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">He has his sights set on the 2028 Paralympic <a class=\"css-1lg16vp-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/sport\/olympics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Games in Los Angeles<\/a>, hoping to one day represent Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">For coach Sarah Fuller, watching that transformation has been a highlight of Tann\u2019s recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cHe\u2019s just really progressed, not only in his rehabilitation but also in his archery as well. Credit: 7NEWS<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Kelvin Hill from the Stroke Foundation said Tann\u2019s story was an example of how life can continue after a stroke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat a remarkable individual.
