Doecke: Glossop woman charged at Adelaide Airport

A Riverland woman who was allegedly caught at Adelaide Airport with child abuse material on her phone can be revealed.

Stephanie Jaye Doecke, 28, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court this week after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers arrested her when she returned from an overseas flight.

A prosecutor told the court there may be further charges laid against Ms Doecke, as they were currently reviewing a “very large” volume of about 8000 messages from her phone.

In a release, ABF said the woman was arrested at Adelaide Airport on January 11, 2026 following a flight from Japan.

The woman was selected for a device examination by ABF officers, who allegedly located evidence of child abuse material.

Court documents released to The Advertiser allege Ms Doecke intentionally imported tier 2 goods, namely child abuse material, located on a Samsung Galaxy S24 mobile phone.

In footage released by the ABF, officers can be seen searching through the woman’s suitcase before she is handcuffed and led away by officers.

Speaking generally, the ABF said it had a zero-tolerance approach to child exploitation material.

Between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2025, ABF officers have stopped over 435 potential child sex offenders at airports around the country.

ABF detections have also resulted in a significant number of referrals overseas leading to the rescue of 158 children and arrest of 32 child abuse facilitators; and six previously unknown offenders placed on the Australian National Child Offender Register for life.

ABF Commander David Coyles said tackling child exploitation was an operational priority for the ABF, and its officers were highly skilled at identifying individuals at airports who attempt to carry this “abhorrent material across the border”.

“ABF officers utilise a range of powers at the border in order to detect and seize goods and material deemed harmful to the community and will act decisively with our law enforcement partners when it is detected,” he said.

“Tackling child abuse is an important part of the ABF’s role in protecting Australia from individuals who may pose a threat to the community – each intercepted piece of child abuse material helps remove children from harm, both here and overseas.”

“The ABF will use all our powers available to cancel visas, penalise and/or prosecute anyone who tries to enter our country and exploit vulnerable children.”

This week, the case was adjourned until November where Ms Doecke will be expected to answer pleas.

A Riverland woman who was allegedly caught at Adelaide Airport with child abuse material on her phone
