she said.

“That kind of led me to the people that were in that vicinity of doing strongman.”

Loading…’Strongman’ for a strong woman

For the uninitiated, the sport of strongman is far from your average weightlifting competition.

“If you can imagine picking up and moving the weirdest objects over a really long distance or for a really fast amount of time,” Ms Williams said.

“I love it, it’s challenging, it’s empowering and the options are limitless, you can’t get bored because there are so many different events.”

So when a car accident left Ms Williams temporarily without the use of one of her arms, she discovered one arm dead-lifting, an offshoot of the strongman sport.

Sherrie Williams attempted the Guinness World Record in 2025. (Supplied: Anytime Fitness Forbes)

Ms Williams attempted the Guinness World Record for the most weight lifted in an hour by a one arm deadlift.

The record sat at a mind-boggling 20,000 kilograms.

When the hour was up, Ms Williams had eclipsed that mark by 3,950kg.

“I attempted that last year and I’m waiting to hear back from them to confirm that it’s all legit and above board,” Ms Williams said.

“I’m actually planning to do my next one as we speak, which is just a max one-arm deadlift.”

In the 10 years since beginning competitions, Sherrie Williams has consistently been smashing records. (Supplied: Sherrie Williams)

Showtime for the ‘human pull’

Moving to the small town of Tullamore a few years ago, and pursuing her career as a gym trainer, Ms Williams knew she had found her place.

But to make her mark, she decided to join the local show committee, and introduced the strongman sport to the program.

Naturally one of the highlights of this year’s event was the ‘human pull’.

Ms Williams said a few young guns and second-timers turned out to give it a go, but there was always room for more.

“I highly, highly would suggest a woman who’s never done anything like this before to give it a try, because you just might surprise yourself and you just might open a door,”
