Many Sydney Swans fans have walked out of the SCG before the men\u2019s final home game of the regular season as the club continues to deal with the fallout from its Melbourne hotel scandal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hundreds of supporters left the ground after the Swans\u2019 AFLW side defeated Essendon by 24 points on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The walkout came during a historic double-header at the SCG, with Sydney\u2019s women playing before the men faced North Melbourne.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Supporters held signs backing women during the AFLW match.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
One read: \u201cThe Swans are nothing without W\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The five players at the centre of the controversy are Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, Chad Warner, Riley\u00a0Bice\u00a0and James Jordon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Swans ruled them out for the rest of the season after\u00a0determining\u00a0their behaviour following the club\u2019s round 23 win over Essendon had breached its standards.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Posters around the SCG that would normally feature Heeney had also been replaced.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Others simply displayed the word \u201cSWANS\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
A banner reading \u201cno more di**heads please\u201d was also removed by SCG security during the AFLW match.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The message\u00a0appeared to reference\u00a0the Swans\u2019 former \u201cno\u00a0di**heads\u201d recruiting philosophy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The approach became\u00a0closely associated\u00a0with coach Paul\u00a0Roos\u00a0and the club\u2019s so-called \u201cBloods culture\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Swans have repeatedly stressed the importance of their standards and culture during the fallout.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But reminders of the men\u2019s controversy were difficult to avoid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Swans merchandise featuring Heeney, Warner and Blakey\u00a0was\u00a0noticeably absent from stands inside the ground.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The trio are among the club\u2019s most recognisable players and have previously featured prominently across official merchandise and promotional material.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The five suspended players have also apologised to their teammates, families,\u00a0supporters\u00a0and the wider club community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The incident has come at\u00a0a difficult time\u00a0for the Swans\u2019 women\u2019s program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The club had hoped the historic SCG double-header would\u00a0provide\u00a0an opportunity to\u00a0showcase\u00a0the women\u2019s side alongside the men.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Instead, the men\u2019s team entered its final regular-season match under intense scrutiny.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Victoria Police is investigating an alleged sexual assault at the Pullman East Melbourne hotel in the early hours of August 17.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Swans players had been staying at the hotel after their victory over the Bombers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
No one has been arrested or charged in connection with the alleged incident.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The circumstances surrounding the investigation remain subject to police inquiries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
