{"id":78563,"date":"2026-08-23T21:11:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T21:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/78563\/"},"modified":"2026-08-23T21:11:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T21:11:13","slug":"man-charged-after-alleged-hit-and-run-in-sydneys-northwest-leaves-pedestrian-fighting-for-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/78563\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged after alleged hit-and-run in Sydney&#8217;s northwest leaves pedestrian fighting for life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man has been charged after an alleged hit-and-run in Sydney\u2019s northwest left a pedestrian fighting for life.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services were called to Ferndale Avenue, near Edinburgh Avenue in Carlingford, after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at about 12.30pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian had been struck by a Nissan van, with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was trapped beneath the vehicle before emergency services worked to free him.<\/p>\n<p>NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was rushed to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>Police established a crime scene as officers from the Crash Investigation Unit began investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p>After searching nearby bushland, police arrested the alleged driver, a 29-year-old man, who allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.<\/p>\n<p>He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where police allege he refused to provide a breath analysis, before being transported under police guard to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.<\/p>\n<p>The man was later returned to Castle Hill Police Station and charged with driving while disqualified, refusing or failing to submit to a breath analysis, and failing to provide particulars to police.<\/p>\n<p>He was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court today, Monday, August 24, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Read related topics:<a class=\"topic_tag\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com.au\/topics\/police-courts\" data-tgev-container=\"story-topic-links\" data-tgev-label=\"Police &amp;
