A woman is dead after a car crashed into lunchtime diners at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s east.<\/p>\n

The woman was sitting outside a restaurant at Westfield Knox, in Wantirna South, about 12.45pm when the car crashed into the building.<\/p>\n

Police said the woman died at the scene.<\/p>\n

She is yet to be formally identified.<\/p>\n

The vehicle’s driver and a passenger were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said they were both in stable conditions.<\/p>\n

A second cafe customer was checked by paramedics at the scene.<\/p>\n

“Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will attend to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Police do not believe the incident was an intentional act.”<\/p>\n

In a social media post, the restaurant, Martini and Co, was declared closed until further notice.<\/p>\n

“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” it said.<\/p>\n

“Please stay safe.”<\/p>\n
