A stunning strike from teenager Shelby McMahon has fired Melbourne City into the A-League Women’s grand final, with her side notching a 1-0 win over cross-town rivals Victory in the second leg of their semifinal.<\/p>\n

McMahon’s match-winning moment came in the 34th minute at the City Football Academy, when she was alert to a bobbling ball on the edge of the penalty area and rifled home fiercely on the half-volley.<\/p>\n

Despite plenty of attacking intent on either side of the 17-year-old’s pinpoint finish, Victory was unable to find the goals needed to send the game into extra-time, with City advancing to the season decider with a 2-0 aggregate triumph.<\/p>\n

Minor premiers City will play the winner of Sunday’s other semifinal between Wellington and Brisbane at Melbourne’s AAMI Park next Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Roar carries a 2-1 lead over from the first leg at home into the second leg at Porirua Park.<\/p>\n

Victory, who finished sixth on the ladder, had 56 per cent of the ball and the lion’s share of the chances, with City goalkeeper Malena Mieres called into action on several occasions.<\/p>\n

Kennedy White and Alana Jan\u010devski were both denied by the City shot stopper in the first half, before the crossbar came to City’s rescue late on.<\/p>\n

“Overall, I thought we managed the game well,” City coach Michael Matricciani told Paramount Plus and Network Ten.<\/p>\n

“Our game plan worked, and we created our four or five chances as well.<\/p>\n

“When Shelby puts that sort of goal away, it’s a special moment.”<\/p>\n
