{"id":79673,"date":"2026-08-25T03:12:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T03:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/79673\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T03:12:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T03:12:13","slug":"micky-dolenz-announces-60-years-of-the-monkees-australian-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/79673\/","title":{"rendered":"Micky Dolenz Announces &#8217;60 Years of The Monkees&#8217; Australian Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mickey Dolenz is bringing six decades of <a href=\"https:\/\/au.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/how-the-monkees-got-their-1960s-groove-back-1196\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Monkees<\/a> history to Australia next year.<\/p>\n<p>The singer, drummer and last surviving member of the iconic pop-rock group will tour Australia in May 2027 with a new live show, \u2018Mickey Dolenz: 60 Years of The Monkees\u2019, kicking off at Brisbane\u2019s QPAC on May 6th before heading to the Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Thirroul, Canberra, Geelong, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.<\/p>\n<p>The show will trace The Monkees\u2019 career chronologically, with Dolenz performing songs including \u201cLast Train to Clarksville\u201d, \u201cI\u2019m a Believer\u201d, \u201c(I\u2019m Not Your) Steppin\u2019 Stone\u201d, \u201cPleasant Valley Sunday\u201d, \u201cRandy Scouse Git\u201d, \u201cSometime in the Morning\u201d and \u201cDaydream Believer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The music will be accompanied by a multimedia presentation drawing on key moments from The Monkees\u2019 history, while Dolenz will share stories from his six decades connected to the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve spent nearly my entire life either in front of or behind the cameras or microphones,\u201d Dolenz said. \u201cMuch of what I\u2019ve been able to share with the world has come from this thing called \u2018The Monkees\u2019 \u2014 this wacky musical-comedy TV show about a band struggling for success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The popular television series premiered in the US on September 12th, 1966, introducing Dolenz alongside Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Davy Jones as a fictional band trying to make it in the music industry.<\/p>\n<p>The joke, of course, was that outside the show they became enormously successful for real.<\/p>\n<p>Love Music?<\/p>\n<p class=\"observer-desc mb-2\"> Get your daily dose of everything happening in Australian\/New Zealand music and globally.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787627533_693_spinner.gif\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterestingly, on the show, The Monkees never actually made it,\u201d Dolenz said. \u201cOff screen, however, we sold out concerts all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also recalled Nesmith\u2019s description of the moment the group began performing as an actual live band. \u201cWhen we first played, all by ourselves, it was like Pinocchio becoming a real boy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>What began as a television concept quickly became one of the defining pop phenomena of the late \u201960s.
