(ABC News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He praised the efforts of the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) firefighters and the &#8220;technically difficult job&#8221; they undertook to free the driver and passenger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">MFS commander Simon Kirkmoe said the driver and passenger had been trapped on board by their lower limbs, while about four other passengers were able to get off the bus unassisted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said the MFS worked for about half an hour to remove the passenger from the bus, while the driver took &#8220;over an hour&#8221; to free.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">\u201cThe driver presented more of a complex removal,&#8221; Mr Kirkmoe said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We had to use some techniques to drag the bus backwards off the pylon to then use some hand tools and hydraulic tools to actually remove the steering column in the front off the bus off of those lower limbs to enable them to be removed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A firefighter in a red hard hat and hi vis jacket.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/a1f4a1adc82fd830a77d694f7edc1574.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Simon Kirkmoe says removing the driver was a &#8220;complex&#8221; task.
