For the past year my partner has had brain cancer and despite his good prognosis, I’ve reached the view that running for a second term is not right for me.

“The next federal election is a long way off and I still have plenty of work to do on housing, securing super for under 18-year-olds, holding KPMG to account and reforming the big four firms.

“I remain committed to continuing my work on climate and environmental justice.“

Senator Pocock was elected in 2022 after a career at the Reserve Bank of Australia, as a lecturer at the University of Adelaide, and at the Australia Institute.

She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010 for her work in industrial relations and social justice.

Liberal senators Jonathon Duniam and Wendy Askew had also announced they would either leave parliament or not seek preselection in recent months.

Read related topics:Adam Bandt

Greens senator Barbara Pocock will not recontest the next federal election in 2028 following her partner’s diagnosis with…

[2
123380,69740,123372,74144,32730,25766,41054,94393,49764,37595,123378,41853,37726,395,22,23,21,24640,123377,123369,41049,123375,57222,123366,3545,12690,123367,36637,123373,25447,123376,93843,123381,3218,39012,70185,123370,45121,40594,123371,14688,9810,123368,123374,38199,39137,66896,51809,46395,57356,57075,40944,123379,51961,49501,17331
post-79719","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-olds","tag-s-diagnosis","tag-s-major-parties","tag-74144","tag-32730","tag-25766","tag-a-career","tag-a-lecturer","tag-a-long-way","tag-a-member","tag-a-second-term","tag-a-senator","tag-a-statement","tag-adelaide","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-austrlia","tag-brain-cancer","tag-climate-and-environmental-justice","tag-greens-senator-barbara-pocock","tag-her-partner","tag-her-term","tag-her-work","tag-his-good-prognosis","tag-housing","tag-industrial-relations","tag-jonathon-duniam-and-wendy-askew","tag-kpmg","tag-liberal-senators","tag-major-party","tag-much-consideration","tag-my-partner","tag-my-work","tag-parliament","tag-plenty","tag-preselection","tag-re-election","tag-recent-months","tag-senator","tag-senator-pocock","tag-social-justice","tag-super","tag-the-australia-institute-she","tag-the-big-four-firms","tag-the-decision","tag-the-next-federal-election","tag-the-order","tag-the-past-year","tag-the-reasons","tag-the-remainder","tag-the-reserve-bank","tag-the-senate","tag-the-south-australian-senator","tag-the-university","tag-the-view","tag-work
["GET
