{"id":80849,"date":"2026-08-26T12:40:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T12:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/80849\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T12:40:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T12:40:18","slug":"showers-and-thunderstorms-forecast-as-trough-moves-east-to-queensland-and-nsw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/80849\/","title":{"rendered":"Showers and thunderstorms forecast as trough moves east to Queensland and NSW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast across Australia as one city recorded its wettest August day in decades.<\/p>\n<p>A low-pressure system brought record rainfall to parts of South Australia on Tuesday morning as Port Lincoln set a new record for the wettest August day, with 50mm of rainfall recorded.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Adelaide recorded 30mm, making it the wettest August day in 34 years.<\/p>\n<p>The city is on track to record its wettest winter in 22 Years.<\/p>\n<p>Rain and storms will continue across New South Wales and Queensland on Wednesday morning as a trough moves eastward.<\/p>\n<p>Thunderstorms are possible on the New South Wales ranges and western slopes, and southeast Queensland early in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Showers and thunderstorms are forecast in Queensland&#8217;s south-east on Wednesday morning, but are expected to clear in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Light showers are possible for Queensland&#8217;s coast, south of Rockhampton, but it is expected to be a warm day, with temperatures in Rockhampton reaching 30C and 28C in Gladstone.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria is forecast for a milder Wednesday as the wet weather eases, and is set for a dry and partly cloudy day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A shower or two on the south of the divide, but that is it. Otherwise, it&#8217;s dry and partly cloudy,&#8221; News24 meteorologist Alison Osborne said.<\/p>\n<p>Gusty winds are forecast along Tasmania&#8217;s southeast coastline combined with showers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tasmania&#8217;s north, on the other hand, is forecast for a &#8220;dry and sunny&#8221; Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Weather is calming down in South Australia, but Osborne said there could be a foggy start through agricultural regions as well as across the coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It will otherwise clear to a dry, partly cloudy day, reaching a high of 17C in Renmark.<\/p>\n<p>Western Australia is facing a day of heavy rainfall through western parts of the south-west land division, but showers are forecast to extend as far north as Geraldton before moving southwards towards Albany.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is elevated fire danger through northern parts of Western Australia, and there is the risk of a shower through the Top End.<\/p>\n<p>National forecast for Wednesday<\/p>\n<p>Sydney<\/p>\n<p>Sydney locals will wake up to a chance of showers and a thunderstorm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A low of 14C and a high of 20C is expected.<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne<\/p>\n<p>Cool and partly cloudy weather is forecast in Melbourne with a slight chance of a shower.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A low of 9C and a high of 15C are expected.<\/p>\n<p>Brisbane<\/p>\n<p>Early morning showers are forecast in Brisbane with a slight chance of thunderstorms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will range between a low of 16C and a high of 26C.<\/p>\n<p>Hobart<\/p>\n<p>Hobart locals will wake up to a breezy day on Wednesday with a slight chance of showers.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will range between a low of 8C and a high of 13C.<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide<\/p>\n<p>Fog is expected to hit some areas in Adelaide on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A low of 8C and a high of 17C are expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perth<\/p>\n<p>Perth is forecast for heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding west of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will drop to a low of 10C and reach a high of 20C.<\/p>\n<p>Canberra<\/p>\n<p>A high chance of showers is forecast for Australia&#8217;s capital.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will hover between a low of 7C and a high of 18C.<\/p>\n<p>Darwin<\/p>\n<p>Darwin remains hot and dry.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will range between a
