One Nation<\/a>\u2019s pick for the next NSW Premier has laughed off an interruption from Pauline Hanson, after he answered a question at a press conference in Japanese.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hanson<\/a> unveiled the man she hopes will shake up New South Wales<\/a> politics on Friday.<\/p>\n

Mike Newman, an investment banker and son of a former ABC chair, will contest the Hunter seat of Cessnock.<\/p>\n

He showed off his language skills, after being asked by a Japanese journalist about business confidence.<\/p>\n

He started the answer in Japanese, before Hanson interjected \u201cExcuse me. I think everyone else might\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ll translate after. I\u2019ll translate right after,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Newman worked in Japan<\/a> for 25 years, including as the NSW Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, based in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

One Nation has kick-started its state election campaign<\/a> in the Hunter Valley, promising to bring back coal and making it easier to do business with regional voters at front of mind.<\/p>\n

He was joined by Hanson and Barnaby Joyce at a Singleton drilling firm and says if he took on the top job, he would cut payroll tax entirely for the regions, and in half for metropolitan businesses to encourage more employment.<\/p>\n

The newly appointed One Nation leader vowed to \u201cget coal mining back up\u201d<\/a> and scrap net\u2011zero targets, arguing cheap energy is essential to revive local manufacturing and jobs..<\/p>\n

Hanson warned: \u201cHis policies will actually put both the Labor Party<\/a> and the Coalition on notice that the people of New South Wales have had enough of the direction they\u2019ve been taking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renewable energy<\/a> zones are also in the firing line with New England MP Barnaby Joyce wanting them \u201cdead and buried in the swamps with the mammoths\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Newman will run in Cessnock, a longtime Labor seat held by Clayton Barr.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But he dodged questions around if he lives in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019m in the region and, to be honest, I\u2019ve been living in Japan<\/a> for the last 25 years, so actually I\u2019ve probably been living in Japan longer than Sydney,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hanson said regardless of his 25 years in Japan, he \u201cknows the issues here, and he\u2019s always kept his eye on politics here in Australia, constantly, all the time\u201d.<\/p>\n
