A man is fighting for his life after being shot in the back in a southwest Sydney home on Saturday night, in what is suspected to be the city\u2019s latest underworld-linked attack.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the home on Randolph St at South Granville about 7.40pm.<\/p>\n

Police officers were told a number of men went into the home, the man was shot, and the men left in a white SUV.<\/p>\n

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.<\/p>\n

Anyone with information or relevant dashcam vision is urged to contact Granville Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.<\/p>\n

The shooting comes after a stretch in which NSW Police have largely managed to stifle the underworld violence that had become somewhat commonplace on Sydney\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n

Jack Cheung\u2019s murder at Carlingford on July 15<\/a> is the last gangland-linked assassination. <\/p>\n

But there have been other near-misses, including earlier this month, when a man in his 60s was shot after a pair of balaclava-clad gunmen burst into his family home and opened fire.<\/p>\n

The victim was an innocent relative of a crime family and had no involvement in any of the conflict that the family has been alleged to be involved in on Sydney\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n

Police sources have become increasingly concerned by a change in the attitude of some in the underworld in 2026, after a significant number of shooting attempts – similar to the one earlier this month – targeting innocent relatives of crime figures.<\/p>\n

That is a significant contrast to years gone by and the high-profile executions, and attempts, on some of Sydney\u2019s biggest underworld kingpins.<\/p>\n

A key element of the NSW Police fight against organised crime has been Taskforce Falcon.
