{"id":83407,"date":"2026-08-30T14:02:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T14:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/83407\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T14:02:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T14:02:23","slug":"boy-dies-in-hospital-days-after-e-scooter-crash-at-childers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/83407\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy dies in hospital days after e-scooter crash at Childers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A teenage boy has died in hospital days after suffering critical injuries in an e-scooter crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Emergency services were called to Macrossan Street at Childers, 400 kilometres north of Brisbane, about 6pm on Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash involving an e-scooter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 13-year-old sustained serious head injuries and was flown to Queensland Children\u2019s Hospital in a critical condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He died in hospital on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Speaking on Thursday, Bundaberg Highway Patrol officer in charge Gordon Hard said the events leading up to the crash were not clear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;To the best of my knowledge he was wearing a helmet,&#8221; Sergeant Hard said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Paramedics performed CPR before that child was flown to Brisbane.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police say investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It is the second fatal e-scooter incident in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A 39-year-old Hervey Bay man died in a crash <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-07-16\/man-dies-in-escooter-and-electric-skateboard-crash\/106920800\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106920800\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">involving his e-scooter and an electric skateboard in July.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said his thoughts are with the boy&#8217;s family and friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The death of any young Queenslander is a tragedy for his family \u2026 and our thoughts are with the Childers community,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It is one of the reasons that our government has pursued changes to e-mobility legislation to crack down on those who are doing the wrong thing and to create a framework to ensure Queenslanders can use e-mobility devices in a safe way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The next stage of the state government&#8217;s e-mobility legislation will come into effect on Monday, requiring riders to be at least 16 and hold at minimum a learner&#8217;s licence to ride solo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Children aged 12 to 17, who do not hold a learner&#8217;s licence, will only be able to ride under parental supervision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A teenage boy has died in hospital days after suffering critical injuries in an e-scooter crash.
