(ABC Kimberley: Rachel Jackson)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Kyra Herveux, who attends St Mary&#8217;s College in Broome, said many people were not using social media correctly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They create fake accounts, spread gossip and are really mean to other people,&#8221;  she said.Bullying escalates<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In April, a student spent more than 24 hours in hospital after being assaulted during an incident at Broome Senior High School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Her mother, who the ABC has chosen not to name, said her daughter was kicked repeatedly by another student and sustained a broken tooth.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Broken tooth\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/74ca9d899348aa856d6c86c96aab2f3c.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The student sustained a broken tooth during the incident at Broome Senior High School. (ABC Kimberley: Sam Tomlin)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The mother said school staff had been doing &#8220;everything they could&#8221; to ensure her daughter felt safe to return to school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Clear consequences&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a statement, the WA Department of Education said it was aware of the incident, and violence was taken &#8220;extremely seriously&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There are clear and immediate consequences for students who engage in anti-social behaviour,&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They said while principals and teachers had access to the resources to &#8220;take firm action&#8221;, the issue was not something schools could tackle alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Parents, caregivers, families and the wider community all have a role to play in reinforcing respect and appropriate behaviour,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A WA police spokesperson said investigations were continuing into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Calls for more education<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It has been about six months since the national ban came into effect, and students in Broome agreed not much had changed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Broome Senior High School student Lily Malcolm\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/australia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/cf26ff91ec7d60d10c22b475fb9a2dbb.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Lily Malcolm says reported posts and comments on TikTok can take weeks to be removed from the platform.
