A string of domestic violence charges, including rape, have been laid days after a 41-year-old man’s “appalling behaviour” inside a Darwin CBD hotel room.<\/p>\n

This morning, NT Police confirmed the man had been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of deprivation of liberty, sexual intercourse without consent, gross indecency without consent and armed with an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n

The charges follow the man’s arrest on Friday morning, after police were called to the city centre on reports a woman had allegedly fled a room to seek help from other hotel guests and staff.<\/p>\n

Police allege the incident occurred inside a hotel located on the city’s esplanade. (ABC News: Hamish Harty)<\/p>\n

“Around 8am, a 41-year-old male was arrested following a domestic disturbance occurring in the room of a hotel located on the Darwin Esplanade,” police said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n

“The man’s arrest followed an alleged domestic violence assault on a female person known to him.”<\/p>\n

The woman received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and, later that day, authorities called on the public for more information about the incident.<\/p>\n

NT Police Detective Senior Sergeant Caragh Hen said his team “condemn the appalling behaviour of this male” and thanked the hotel bystanders for assisting the woman he allegedly attacked.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old man has been served with a domestic violence order and remains in custody.<\/p>\n

He is set to appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday.<\/p>\n

Second DV incident in CBD on Friday<\/p>\n

NT Police allege another, unrelated domestic violence incident occurred in Darwin’s CBD on the same day.<\/p>\n

A 45-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing two people with scissors, in a separate assault on Friday night.<\/p>\n

This morning, NT Police said a security guard had intervened at around 9pm and separated the alleged offender from the other woman and man as authorities made their way to Smith Street Mall.<\/p>\n

“The male victim, who is known to the woman, suffered a superficial cut to his arm,” police said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“A second victim, who is related to the woman, received minor scratches and a superficial cut to her upper arm.”<\/p>\n

Both alleged victims were treated by paramedics but did not require hospitalisation, with the incident captured on CCTV and police investigations ongoing.<\/p>\n

“The woman remains in custody and is expected to be charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of intend serious harm, breach of a domestic violence order, breach of a suspended sentence and go armed in public,” NT Police said.<\/p>\n
